On Friday, August 26, President Ronald Mason Jr. and Chief Officer of Student Development and Success Dr. William Latham presided over the installation of new ambassadors for UDC and UDC-CC.

Shannell Hibbert - GSGA President

Graduate Student Government Association President: Shannell Hibbert

Hibbert is from Jamaica. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in business management from UDC in May 2020 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in international business. She is a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Hibbert enjoys listening to audiobooks, participating in physical fitness activities, and pursuing entrepreneurial ventures. She intends to focus on the needs and well-being of her peers and dedicate her services to advocating for each student. She will encourage participation in workshops, internships and scholarships. Hibbert would like to create a monthly newsletter.

Graduate Student Government Association Vice-President: Carletta Hurt

Graduate Student Government Association Vice-President: Carletta Hurt

Hurt is from Georgia and a Ph.D. student in CAUSES. She graduated with honors from Oglethorpe University with a degree in middle grades education and earned her master’s and educational specialist degrees in education (school counseling) from Georgia State University. She has over two decades of experience in education. Hurt is a high school counselor in Washington, D.C., where she supports students aged 16 to 60. She was named D.C. School Counselor of the Year in 2016 by the American School Counselor Association.

Graduate Student Government Association Secretary: Andrae Harris

Harris is from Jamaica and came to UDC in 2018 on a full tuition scholarship. He majored in civil and graduated cum laude in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He is pursuing his master’s degree in civil engineering with a concentration in environmental engineering.

Undergraduate Student Government Association, President: Brent Thigpen

Thigpen is from Waldorf, Maryland, and a junior mechanical engineering major. He is interested in becoming a pilot for Emirates. Thigpen spent his summer interning at Boeing in Everett, Washington, where he was a system stress engineering intern. Thigpen is a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Yard Ambassador, UDC Student Ambassador, Engineering Ambassador and National Society of Black Engineers student liaison for the junior class.

Undergraduate Student Government Association Vice-President: Sabrina Roberts

Roberts is a senior architecture major and a native of Georgia. She is a member of the Women’s Lacrosse team and the Latinx club and AIAS. She plans to use her skills to highlight the great things that UDC has to offer and to help develop the school to better fit all students’ needs.

Jade Jacobs - USGA Secretary

Undergraduate Student Government Association, Secretary: Jade Jacobs

Jacobs is a senior jazz study major with a focus on vocal performance. She is from Danville, Virginia. In 2017 she graduated with an associate degree in musical theatre from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. Jacobs served in the United States Army Reserve as a Signal Support Specialist. She is the manager of the Fire Dolls Majorette Dance Team.

Undergraduate Student Government Association, Treasurer: Kyle Nolan

Nolan is a senior computer science major from Jamaica. He is a member of the CCIE and an advocate for mental health and drug abuse among students. After graduation, he plans to pursue a master’s degree at UDC or attend law school to become a corporate lawyer.

Community College Student Government Association President: Kenisha Toye

Community College Student Government Association President: Kenisha Toye

 Toye is from D.C. and is graduating at the end of the fall semester with an associate degree in education with a concentration in early childhood pre-K to third grade. A former athlete and model, she works with organizations to feed the homeless and provide care packages to women in shelters.

Community College Student Government Association Secretary: Diana Murillo

Community College Student Government Association Secretary: Diana Murillo

Murillo is an early education major from El- Salvador and was raised in D.C. and Maryland. She is a former volunteer at the non-profit organization called Horizons Greater Washington, where she learned the importance of believing in children and shaping them to become kind, confident and giving people. She plans to bring a new set of ideas to the table that will have a significant influence on students as they prepare to graduate.
