UDC Residency Policy – Military

The University of the District of Columbia is a Public University with 3 different tuition rates based on where a student is domicile. If you cannot meet the residency requirements set by the university which includes 2 of 4 of the following:

  1. A certified copy of the State/DC tax return
  2. A driver’s license/ state issued ID with your District or Metropolitan Area address
  3. A state benefits transcript, such as TANF from a government agency showing receipt of public benefits from that agency and bearing an address within the District or qualifying Metropolitan area counties.

You (student veterans or a dependent) may be eligible to receive military preference regarding residency if:

  1. Active duty and domicile in DC or the Metro area OR
  2. Separated from service (proof is the DD-214) within the last 3 year and domicile in DC or the Metro area.

Please Note: Getting residency through this method is only waiving the 12 month requirement other students must show to get the discounted tuition rates.

If you are active duty please provide a copy of:

  1. Orders (showing active duty)
  2. Marriage certificate (if spouse is trying to get tuition discount)
  3. Birth certificate (if child is trying to get the tuition discount)
  4. Lease (showing you are domicile in the District or Metro Area)
  5. State Issued ID with picture

If you are using your DD-214 as proof please provide a copy of:

  1. DD-214 (Separation date within 3 years of the beginning of that academic term)
  2. Lease (showing you are domicile in the District or Metro Area)
  3. State Issued ID with picture
