Student Success Academy

The Student Success Academy is a structured, training program on various topics offered 4-6 times a semester, which is aimed at educating university stakeholders on current student success resources and services. The Academy was designed to support the University’s Strategic Plan, the Equity Imperative which focuses on strategic initiatives through which seeks to help advance student success by improving retention and completion rates as well as student engagement and progression.

SESSION DETAILS:

  • Recruiting Student Workers and Posting On-Campus Jobs with Handshake: In this session, you will learn how to recruit student workers with the Handshake system.
  • What’s Happening with Career Services: In this session, you will learn about the various initiatives and programs being led by the Office of Career Services.
  • Exploring College Majors and Career Pathways with Focus 2 System In this session, you will learn how to explore best fit college majors and career pathways by assessing your personality, skills, values, , and leisure.
  • MBSYEP Summer Youth Employment Program: In this session, you will learn how to develop a successful job or enrichment program through the MBSYEP Program.
  • Intro to A.AC.T. (EAB/Navigate): Participants will gain access to EAB/Navigate and receive an introduction to basic features including viewing student profiles, emailing and texting students, taking and viewing notes on student interactions. This session is hands on and includes time for Q&A.

Audience: Faculty, Staff, Administrators who have not used EAB/Navigate before or would like a refresher on core functionalities of the platform.

  • Pulling Reports in A.AC.T. (EAB/Navigate): This session includes a brief overview of Search and Reporting functionalities in EAB/Navigate. Much of the session is dedicated to discussion and teaching attendees how to build their desired custom reports. Example reports: All students in a major who have not taken a specific course, Juniors in CAS who have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.0, Freshman who have yet to meet with an advisor.

Audience: Staff, Faculty, and Administrators who have prior familiarity with EAB/Navigate and a desire to identify and take action with groups of students based on shared attributes (major, credits earned, courses taken, classification, activity attendance, etc.).

  • Early Alerts and Progress Reports in A.AC.T (EAB/Navigate): Participants will receive an overview of the Early Alerts process including information on timing, structure, communications, and the roles of all parties involved. This is a hands-on training for Faculty to learn how and when to submit Early Alerts and what to expect once alerts are submitted.

Audience: Faculty

  • Academic Advising 101: Offers training on the interactive experience between a student and advisor (professional and faculty). Understanding the Appreciative Advising Model assists advisors in examining and understanding their role in helping students identify, prepare for, and achieve their short-term and long-term goals.
  • Academic Advising 102: (Prerequisite Academic Advising 101) Academic Advising is an ongoing learning experience and requires consistent training. Here faculty and staff advisors will review how to use Banner, Degree Works, A.AC.T. , and programs of study to advise students.
