Counseling and Wellness Center

The UDC Counseling and Wellness Center is available to promote psychological wellbeing that helps students reach their academic, personal, and relational goals.  We work to help you address any issue that may be interfering with your wellbeing or success.  Services are provided by trained professionals and are fully confidential. 

Students receive free professional assistance in managing depression and anxiety and other mental health disorders, learning about themselves, creating healthy relationships, developing life coping skills, and improving decision-making skills.  Essentially, the counseling services are provided in order to help you address any personal, emotional, or psychological issues that pose a barrier to your success, so that you can achieve your potential.  Personal counseling and mental health services are provided on an individualized basis, and the student and counselor create treatment goals together.

We offer individualized services to help you address your concerns in a supportive and collaborative manner.  Our services include single session (following consultation session), short-term therapy, insight-oriented therapy, biweekly counseling, and consultation.

If you are in distress and need someone to talk to, you can reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1.800.273.TALK or 1.800.273.8255.

The Counseling & Wellness Center offers virtual and in-person counseling.  Traditional in-person services resume in August 2021.

– Please do not come for in-person in counseling if you have symptoms of coronavirus or another communicable illness.  Symptoms of COVID-19 include but are not limited to fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.  Please refer to the Center for Disease Control’s COVID-19 website for more information on symptoms of COVID-19 that necessitate that you stay home.  If a Counseling Center staff member detects potential symptoms of a communicable disease, you will be directed to leave the Center.  You may be able to participate in teletherapy instead of in-person services.

– If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 10 days, are unvaccinated and have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, or if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, stay home.

– If you are not eligible to participate in in-person services at some point due to apparent or known illness, you can speak with your Counselor about participating in a teletherapy session at your normally scheduled appointment time.

The WellTrack App (apple)(android) is an interactive self-help platform that provides tools that can help address stress, anxiety, and depression, and connect you with campus resources. Online Mental Health Screening

The screenings are quick and anonymous.  Once you click on the link below you will have the option to take one or more of several screenings (depression, eating disorders, anxiety, alcohol problems, etc.). Just read through the descriptions and take as many as you need or want.

Kognito LogoThe UDC Counseling & Wellness Center has adopted and wants to introduce you as faculty and staff to ‘Kognito’. Kognito is an online educational program designed to educate faculty, staff, and students about mental health. Each simulation exercise in Kognito allows the user to practice conversations that help students build resilience, strengthen relationships, and develop connections with campus resources. Through role-play, users build knowledge and skills around mental health and suicide prevention. Kognito is also designed to support academic performance, student retention, and campus safety.
