Mr. Jared E. Moffett serves as the Executive Director of Career Services for the Office of Career Services on the Van Ness Campus in the Division of Student Development and Success at the University of the District of Columbia. Mr. Moffett oversees the Offices of Career Services that work to engage all students and alumni in the career development process including career exploration and employment readiness to promote student retention and success. Since coming to UDC in 2012, Mr. Moffett has increased the amount of employer partnerships by 3,500 and his office now announces 1,000’s of jobs, internships, and other positions as well as career events for students/alumni, faculty/staff, and employers/recruiters. In 2015, Mr. Moffett designed and developed UDC’s new career services management and job database system also as known as Career Services Online (CSO).
Mr. Moffett brings to UDC over 17 years of experience in career and behavioral health counseling within the field of education including both K-12 and higher education. Mr. Moffett previously served as the Director of Career Services for the Community College Campus at the University of the District of Columbia. In this capacity, he founded the career center for the community college. There he identified and created a multitude of career development resources for the university while facilitating career services such as career counseling, job readiness education, and employment outreach for students, alumni, faculty/staff, and employers/recruiters. Additionally, he taught Principles of Psychology as an Adjunct Professor for the Community College.
Mr. Moffett has also served as the Special Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Coordinator of Cooperative Education and Internship Services, Assistant Coordinator of Counseling, Career Counselor, Student Development Instructor all at the third largest community college in the US – Northern Virginia Community College. Additionally, he has served as a High School Guidance Counselor and Varsity Swim Team Coach at Baltimore City Public Schools, Mental Health Associate Counselor at the Allegany County Health Department in Western Maryland, Addictions Counselor with Gaudenzia Inc and the Maryland State Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Counselor Technician at Mountain Manor Treatment Center of Baltimore, Weight Management Counselor at Camp Wellsprings of California, Lead Teacher with the Alternative Community Resource Program of Pennsylvania, and Financial Aid and Admissions Work-study Assistant at Frostburg State University in Western Maryland. Mr. Moffett accredits his career success due to completing five internships at the undergraduate and graduate level including his doctoral internship in the Health Services Center at the University of the District of Columbia.
A strong advocate for educational high impact practices and clinical evidenced based practices, Mr. Moffett full-heartedly committed to being a dedicated professional, instructional leader, continuous assessor, educational advocate, collaborative bridge builder, and reflective ethical decision maker.
Having an interest in educational leadership and scholarship, Mr. Moffett has been the recipient of the Innovation Award, Presidential Leadership Cohort Award, Diversity Scholarship, F. Perry Smith Graduate Scholarship and Mental Health Research Undergraduate Scholarship as well as the Co-Author for Career Development Guides and Author of the Cooperative Education and Coordinated Internships Handbook. Also, he has developed higher education classroom and online based career courses titled Career Development, Coordinated Internship, Cooperative Education, College Success Skills, and various Special Topics courses such as Choosing the Best Fit College Major.
A graduate of Frostburg State University in Western Maryland, Mr. Moffett received his Masters of Education Degree in School Counseling, Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology and Sociology, and Certificate in Child and Family Psychology. Mr. Moffett is currently an ABD status candidate for his Doctorate of Behavioral Health Degree with a Clinical Specialization and Focus in Career Occupational Wellness. Mr. Moffett is a certified school counselor and mental health first aid responder. Mr. Moffett resides in Glen Burnie Maryland with his partner Matthew and his poodle Hero.
