Career Highlights

  1. Affiliated with the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of the District of Columbia since August 1986.
  2. Served as the Chair of the Department of Engineering, Architecture and Aerospace Technology of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, August 2001-2005.
  3. Designed various residential, commercial and industrial structures in the Washington, DC Metro Area including the award winning, 7th District Metropolitan Police Station in North West, Washington.
  4. As the Principal of Alpha International, Inc., Engineering Consulting firm in Washington, D.C., worked on various international engineering projects.
  5. As the Principal of Alpha International, worked on the initial phase of the Marmaray, a $4 Billion railway tunnel project under the Bosphorus straits, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, which was. The tunnel is almost a 8.5-mile (13.6km) long and immersed under 56 metres (184ft) of water. It connects two continents, Europe and Asia. Opened in October 24, 2013
  6. As the Principal of Alpha International, worked on the initial phase of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project at Akkuyu, Turkey. Negotiated with Westinghouse on behalf of Alpha International & NUROL Construction Comp.
  7. The “Engineer/Professor of the Year-2013” by DCCEAS (Professional Society in DC comprised of delegates from 36 Professional Organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Architecture, etc. (ASCE, ASME, IEEE, etc..)
  8. FELLOW, by the National Society of Professional Engineers, August 2009
  9. Served as the President (twice) of the District of Columbia, Society of Professional Engineers (DCSPE), 2002 and 2005.
  10. Nominated to Distinguished Teaching Award by Mid-Atlantic Section of American Society of Engineering Education – July 2006
  11. Nominated to NSPE (National Society for Professional Engineers) Distinguished Educator Award in the Nation, September 2012.
  12. Received the “Mentorship Award” the University of the District of Columbia, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, June 2013.
  13.  Received the “DIAMOND Service Award” from the MATHCOUNTS Foundation,  Chicago, October 24,  2013.

  19. Active in research and publications, worked as PI and CO PIs on various grants, including the Department of Education grants.
  20. Through pro-bono classes, instrumental in helping dozens of engineering and architectural students, alumni and engineers from industry and governmental agencies to pass their FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) and PE (Professional Engineering) exams.
  21. Received Professional Engineers in Higher Education Engineering Education Excellence Award from National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 2015.
