Matt Kalan, Ph.D. Candidate at Tufts University

Matt Kalan graduated from UDC in 2020 with a BS in Chemistry. During his time at UDC, Matt served as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for General Chemistry and completed research in organotin synthesis with Dr. Xueqing Song. Matt is currently researching the quantitation and characterization of nanoparticles in metal oxide food additives at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration through a program with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education. In Fall 2021, he will begin his first year as a Chemistry Ph.D. student at Tufts University in Boston, MA. Matt came to Chemistry later in life and believes it’s never too late to pursue one’s academic passion. He currently lives in Arlington, VA with his wife, dog, and cat and spends his free time cooking, baking, and bird-watching.
