“Father Eugène Merlet Award for Community Service”

Leah Claiborne, MM, DMADr. Claiborne Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Keyboard Area in the Division of Arts and Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences, entered the ProMusicis International Music Competition this past August. The competitors represented over thirteen different countries during the semi-final round. At the end of September, Dr. Claiborne was notified that she had advanced to the finals. On October 7th, Dr. Claiborne competed in New York City (Yamaha Artists’ Studios) where she was awarded the Father Merlett Award. This Award is given to a single competitor who demonstrated a high level of performance along with a commitment to social outreach. The ProMusicis competition has awarded the Community Piano Program Dr. Claiborne is starting at UDC with $4,000, and a continued commitment to support her efforts at UDC. Dr. Claiborne will be awarded the prize in May of 2020 at the French Consulate in New York City. Congratulations Dr. Claiborne!
