Annual Math-Science Gift Store

This year’s Math-Science Gift Store was a huge success and well attended by students from all over the DC Metropolitan area.

The Math/Science Gift Store was initiated in the 1980s to provide children grades K-6 the opportunity to obtain Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) materials, books, and learning devices to use themselves, or to share with family and friends.  The Math/Science Gift Store introduced STEM to some children while providing an opportunity for additional exposure in STEM areas to others.  Each year, youth groups and schools from the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Area are invited to participate.

Before entering the store, each student received mock money to purchase STEM items and one book. Once the items were selected, they were taken to the cashier’s table for purchase. More than 100 students attended.

This program is strictly funded by contributions. All books are contributed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The Math-Science Gift Store, Co- Sponsored by: The Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Area Network of Minority Women in Science, Inc., The University of the District of Columbia College of Arts and Sciences Division of Sciences and Mathematics and the UDC STEM Center for Research and Development.
