UDC Alum – Ambassador of Grenada to the People’s Republic of China

Denis G. Antoine is the current Ambassador of Grenada to the People’s Republic of China. He  formerly served as the Ambassador Permanent Representative of Grenada to the United Nations and a Vice President of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Antoine functioned as Ambassador At-Large and Director of the Office of International Programs and Exchanges, in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, for the University of the District of Columbia from 2009-2013.

In his new role, the Ambassador hopes to strengthen ties between Grenada and China by increasing business connections, with discussions underway for building an airline between China, Cuba and Grenada. Antoine is also working to increase academic opportunities and people-to-people connections, with more than 50 Grenadian students now studying in China.

Grenada’s Mission to the United Nations serves to promote Grenada’s interest within the Community of Nations in order to enhance its image and development; and to advance the government’s foreign policy and to provide a voice of representation.

In the course of a diplomatic career that spans more than 17 years, Antoine served concurrently from 1995 to 2009, as Grenada’s Ambassador to the United States, Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C., and non-resident Ambassador to Mexico and Panama.  He was Deputy Head of Grenada’s Mission and Counsellor/Alternate Representative to OAS and Chargé d’Affaires in Washington, D.C., from 1985 to 1990.

Until 1995, he served as Program Specialist for the Government of the District of Columbia and Education Supervisor for the District of Columbia Public Schools.

Antoine holds a Doctor of Philosophy in management from LaSalle University, a Master of Science in Organizational Management from National-Louis University and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of the District of Columbia.
