UDC Student to Sing National Anthem at Milwaukee Brewers/Houston Astros Game on September 4
Washington, D.C. — William Kellibrew, IV, a senior at the University of the District of Columbia, will sing the National Anthem prior to the September 4, 2007 game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Houston Astros in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. William, a native Washingtonian, is his second summer as a Multicultural Relations intern at the Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Company.
“William has demonstrated a unique mix of business acumen that has been coupled with the talent to reach people through music,” according to his boss, Larry Waters, Senior Director of Multicultural Relations for the Miller Brewing Company. “He has a rich voice that has been shared at work and in the Milwaukee community where he has volunteered to showcase his vocal abilities.” Waters leveraged his relationship with the Milwaukee Brewers to gain an opportunity for William to sing the National Anthem at Miller Park on Tuesday, September 4th when the Brewers take on Houston.
William, who is scheduled to graduate next May with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, is a Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Scholar and was recently selected as the initial recipient of a one-semester scholarship granted for a UDC student to attend the University of Sunderland in Sunderland, England. He is a former two-term president of the University of the District of Columbia’s Undergraduate Student Government Association, is the president of his senior class and a member of the UDC men’s tennis team.
William’s academic career has been marked by activism and leadership. He took a role of leadership at the national level among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in mobilizing relief efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and was a member of a delegation from UDC that participated in a global peace conference in Hiroshima Japan in 2006.
“William can only be described as a student leader’s leader,” said Dr. Janice M. Borlandoe, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at UDC. “He is an extraordinarily well-rounded young man who is blessed with gifts and the ability to use them to the fullest. Not only does William lead by example, but he has an uncanny ability to relate to others. He has epitomized community involvement.”
William is completing his second summer internship with the Miller Brewing. As a Multicultural Relations Intern, William has exhibited exceptional skills coordinating the strategic development of alliances with key national and community-based multicultural organizations and businesses to help raise public awareness of Miller’s programs and initiatives.
