UDC President Sessoms meets with
Speaker Pelosi & House Science Committee Chairman Bart Gordon

On March 24th, 2009 UDC President Sessoms joined a few other university presidents from across the country to meet with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Bart Gordon, Chairman of the House Science and Technology Committee to thank them for their strong support for federal investments in science.

The University's President emphasized science research and education money in the ARRA (the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, aka the “stimulus bill”) and also the positive funding levels in the FY2009 Omnibus package. In addition to thanking the Speaker and Chairman, President Sessoms discussed the University providing training in the installation and maintenance of both solar and wind turbine systems.  The group took the opportunity to strategize with the Speaker and Chairman on how to keep the momentum for science going.  The group also emphasized the importance of having “sustained, predictable and healthy increases” for science research funding.
