Dr. Deepak Kumar, Chairperson of the Department of Biology was honored by Georgetown University at the Patent Award Ceremony.

 

Washington, DC - Congratulations to Dr. Deepak Kumar, Chairperson of the Department of Biology who was honored by Georgetown University at the Patent Award Ceremony held in Lohrfink Auditorium at Georgetown University on January 31, 2011.   Office of technology at Georgetown University honored faculty that were awarded US patents between the years 2007-2010,  Dr. Kumar is the co-inventor on two patents that were awarded during that time.   The two patents (US 7253272 and US 7442520) relate to the diagnostic and therapeutic uses of cancer associated genes, BRCC2 and BRCC3 that are involved in tumor growth and metastasis in certain cancer types such as breast and lung cancer.   Dr. Kumar also holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Oncology at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Georgetown University.
