UDC Defeats American University-Puerto Rico,68-64 (women)

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Sophomore forward Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA) led the way for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team as they defeated the American University –Puerto Rico Piratas, 68-64, today in the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Griffith recorded her second double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Joining Griffith in double figures was Junior center Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) , who recorded her 10th double double of the season scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high 17 rebounds.

Junior guard Tiffany Church (Norfolk, VA) added 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal to the winning effort.

UDC shot 49 percent (25-51) from the field, 39 percent (7 for 18) from beyond the arc and 61 percent (11 of 18) from the charity stripe to take the victory. UDC improved to 6-10 for the season with the win.

Roxyali Muoz, scored a game-high 24 points to provide the leadership for American University. Kiara Gonzalez followed with 8 points.

UDC will play Puerto Rico Bayamon on Friday, January 8, at 1 p.m. in the final round of the Tournament.
