Walter E. Washington Convention Center
- The Walter E. Washington Convention Center does not have a public parking garage; however several parking lots are in close proximity (5th & K Streets, NW -across the street from Safeway and 9th & New York Avenue-across the street from the Renaissance Hotel). Participants and guests are encouraged to use Metrorail (Mt. Vernon Square Metro Station-yellow and green lines).
- Business attire is requested for commencement. Please do not wear flip flops, tennis shoes or other recreational shoes. Your commencement is a special ceremony and proper attire is required.
- Graduates ONLY should arrive no later than 8:00 AM through the M Street Entrance and report to the Second Floor, Room 207 A/B.
- Family, friends and others will be allowed to enter the Third Floor Ballroom beginning at 9:00 AM .
- Balloons, bull horns, airhorns or other horns (i.e. musical instruments such as trumpets, saxophones, guitars, etc), banners or signs of any size or kind are not allowed in the Convention Center.
- Food will not be allowed in the Commencement Ballroom.
- Please turn off pagers and cell phones during the ceremony.
- Please do not leave the floor prior to the recessional. It is important that everyone participates in the commencement ceremony and celebrate the academic success of all graduates.
- Pictures will only be allowed to be taken in designated areas.
- Degrees will not be issued at the completion of the ceremony. Degrees will be distributed Monday, May 14-Wednesday, May 16, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM in the following designated locations: Community College- 801 North Capitol; CAUSES-Building 44, Room 102; College of Arts and Sciences, Building 41, Suite 405-01; School of Business and Public Administration-Building 39, Rom 106, SBPA Advising Center and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Building 42, Room 212. In order to receive your degree, you must present student identification.
- Once the ceremony is over, you can meet your family and friends in the Grand Lobby of the Convention Center.
- Evacuation from the Ballroom will be enforced immediately following the ceremony.
Commencement will start promptly at 10:00 AM.

You can even schedule an appointment with the Career Center 's Staff online. Post-Grad Fest Information:
If you were unable to attend the 2012 Grad Fest on April 2nd, you still have the opportunity to take your cap and gown pictures, purchase regalia, and order class rings, announcements, and thank you gifts.
Cap and Gown Pictures:
You may contact Earl Howard Studios, our official photographer, at (202) 582-1100, to schedule an appointment by May 10th (extended deadline) to take your cap and gown (yearbook) picture. A $5.00 sitting fee is required. Ladies, please be mindful of hairstyles and manicures as you will take various poses during photography session. Gentlemen, a shirt and tie is required.
Regalia:
Price list
Pre-ordered regalia must be picked up from the UDC Bookstore-Van Ness Campus by 12 Noon, Thursday, May 10th, 2012. If you did not pre-order your regalia, you will be able to purchase regalia (price list attached) Monday, May 7th - Friday, May 11th, 2012, at the UDC Bookstore, Van Ness Campus. Bookstore will close at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 11th. If you are not able to purchase your regalia by Friday, May 11th, you can purchase regalia the morning of Commencement at the Convention Center. Our UDC Bookstore Staff will be available and payments must be in the form of cash only.

Class Rings, Announcements, and Thank-you Gifts:
You can design and order your class ring, announcements (for those special to you who will NOT be able to attend Commencement) and thank-you gifts from Jostens at www.jostens.com. If you need customer service, please feel free to contact the Jostens Customer Service Center at 1-800-854-7464, CST (Central Standard Time).
*Did you order a class ring at Grad Fest and have not received it to date? If so, please contact the Customer Service Center for an order status.
Commencement 2012 Information:
Countdown to Commencement!!!!!!
Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10:00 AM, Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Graduates are requested to arrive by 8:00 AM. Doors will open at 9:00 AM for guests.
Invitations:
Graduates who have not picked up invitations may do so the week of May 7th during normal scheduled business hours as I will be participating in final preparations for YOUR big day!!!!!!
Graduation Rehearsal and Final Clearance:
Graduation rehearsal and final clearance will take place on Wednesday, May 9th, 5:00 PM, University Sports Complex (gym), Van Ness Campus. Graduation rehearsal will be provided by the Commencement Committee and the final clearance will be provided by the Office of the Registrar Staff. If you have not completed the SLS Exit Survey by May 9th, you will have the opportunity to complete survey after rehearsal with our Office of Career and Professional Development Staff. I will provide you with additional commencement information (decorum, parking, etc.) during rehearsal.
Senior Class Gift:
It was decided in our April 14th Meeting that the Senior Class will participate in the University's Brick and Paver Campaign. I would like to ask all graduates to contribute $10.00 to this campaign. Donations can be presented when you pick up your invitations. A receipt will be provided to you for your donation. Let's work together to present our special gift at commencement!!!!
