BBA in Finance

Coming soon, a revised curriculum!
The curriculum below applies to students who
entered prior to Fall 2010.

This curriculum introduces students to the many different aspects of the field of finance. Students first study finance from the point of view of the corporate financial manager. They are expected to learn the characteristics of the money and capital markets, analyze the working capital position and capital structure of business organizations, and make financial decisions using cash flow projections and capital budgeting techniques.

After students study the concepts of corporate financial management, they learn more about the investment decision-making process. Students study the capital markets in depth and learn about the relevance of risk and reward in the investment decision process. Students not only learn about traditional investment vehicles, they also learn about the many evolving investment choices encountered in the changing world of finance.

Students of finance also study commercial banking, personal financial planning, and the role of the financial manager in international transactions. They are encouraged to expand their knowledge of finance by taking electives in accounting or taxation, and all finance majors are required to take a capstone course which uses case studies to apply the concepts they have learned in their previous finance and accounting courses.

Students completing the Finance program receive a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance, and they are expected to seek careers in such fields as: corporate financial management, commercial bank or thrift institution management, mortgage banking, financial counseling, real estate or insurance brokerage, and investment management.

Students majoring in Finance are required to complete 130 credit hours for graduation, of which 33 credit hours are in finance or accounting, 45 credit hours are in other business courses, and 52 credit hours are in liberal or fine arts, language, and science. The B.B.A. in Finance program is fully accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

The degree requires a total of 130 credit hours
