Dr. Connie M. Webster, Professor and Chairperson for the Department of Nursing and Allied Health, and the Project Director for the Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions [RIMI] Project at the University of the District of Columbia. She received her doctorate degree from the Catholic University of America after completing undergraduate and Master’s level course work at Howard University. With a specialty in Psychiatric Nursing, she is certified by the American Nursing Credentialing Center in Psychiatric Nursing and Nursing Administration. She joined the faculty of the University of the District of Columbia in October 2000 after 33 years of clinical practice. Her years of clinical practice included positions at Washington Hospital Center, Saint Elizabeths Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and a tour of active duty in the United States Air Force.
A keen interest in research and a great concern regarding access to health care and health disparities in the African American population readily led her to become a member of the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Research Network for Health Services and health Disparities. Her past research projects have focused on complications associated with Type 2 Diabetes in urban and rural African American population. A two phased assessment and intervention grant funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid completed in 2004. She is the current Project Director for the Research Infrastructure In Minority Institution (RIMI) multimillion dollar, multiyear collaboration between the University of the District of Columbia, Howard University, and the McFarland Institute, a key project focusing on eliminating health disparities, and a recent recipient of a student researcher grant, funded by the United Negro College Fund, Minority Programs focusing on breast and prostate cancer.
Dr. Webster is a member of various national and local nursing and higher education organizations, advisories, and committees. She also serves as the university’s liaison representative to NAFEO on health disparities.
