| Project Goals
The RIMI Project at UDC will integrate teaching and research while maintaining its core purpose and monitoring outcomes:
1—Identify and prepare ten UDC tenure track faculty from the Department of Nursing and Allied Health to conduct independent research.
■Thirteen UDC RIMI faculty scholars are actively engaged in behavioral research training and independent exercises with their Howard University mentors. Faculty scholars are required to complete a set of established core research competencies by the conclusion of the grant.
2—Identify and mentor four undergraduate students in nursing and allied health who demonstrate promise for establishing a productive career in research and provide them with research and training.
■Six student researchers completed a summer research symposium, received research manuals, and are working closely with a visiting faculty mentor .
3—Promote the development of a research culture at UDC through a series of ongoing enrichment activities for faculty and students.
■RIMI provides an annual Summer Research Institute, professional development courses, mentor activities, Research Retreat, RIMI SEARCH Grants, and participation in the annual HBCU Research Networking Meeting.
4—Infuse research concepts and methods across the nursing and allied health curriculum at UDC targeting the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities.
■Nursing faculty are restructuring and updating the curriculum.
5—Build an academic research infrastructure at UDC that supports cutting edge, innovative education and research related to the elimination of health disparities.
■The RIMI Project houses a new, state-of-the-art, SMART Room that provides 24-hour access for faculty scholars and student researchers. |
