Research Interests:

  1. Design and synthesis of derivatives of biologically potential organic and organometallic molecules aimed at enhancing their bioavailability and target selectivity
  2. Characterization of their structures using state-of-the-art spectroscopic, photophysical, and electrochemical methods
  3. Understanding of the relationship between the properties of the molecular components and their bioavailability, and then to use that knowledge to direct our synthetic efforts.

Ongoing Research:

  1. Design and Synthesis of anticancer Indole derivatives and Study of Mode of Action: We synthesize derivatives of indole-3-carbinol and 3,3’-diindolylmethane and explore the modes of action in order to investigate intracellular signaling pathways and identify novel targets for drug design. Preliminary data for this project has been collected through NCI/NIH U56 grant.
  2. Design and synthesis of novel ionic triorganotin complexes: The research focuses on gaining insight into the factors responsible for high water solubility of triorganotin complexes in hopes of utilizing them to increase their biological activity. This project is currently supported by Merck/AAA undergraduate research grant to collect preliminary data. Further funding for this project is being sought through NIH SCORE program.
