Alan Etter, joined UDC in July 2009 as Director of Public Relations and was elevated to Vice President of University Relations & Public Affairs in October 2009. In this position, Etter is responsible for all public affairs duties for the university as well as institutional advancement, marketing, alumni affairs and serves as spokesperson for the university system.

Etter, a veteran Washington journalist, served as public information officer for the DC Fire & EMS Department for nearly nine years before coming to UDC. In that role, he was chief spokesman for the department and arranged special events. He continues his affiliation with the fire service as a volunteer emergency medical technician and firefighter. He also serves on the boards of directors for the Radio and Television News Directors Association and the Port of Washington Yacht Club.

Prior to joining DCFD, Etter was a well-known news reporter, working in television and radio, most notably WTOP News in Washington, where he earned several national and local awards for his work.
