Graeme Baxter, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of the District of Columbia, is a veteran educator who has held numerous leadership positions in higher education and other non-profit venues. Prior to assuming her current responsibilities, she served for over five years as Executive Director of Undergraduate Honors, Fellowships and Research at George Washington University and six years as President of Mount Vernon College and Executive Dean of GW’s Mount Vernon campus.

She has worked in higher education at the campus, community, state and federal levels as Associate Director of the Washington Metropolitan Area Consortium of Universities, Assistant U. S Commissioner of Education, Vice President of the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation and Assistant, then Acting, Academic Dean of Newton College in Newton, Massachusetts. Her classroom experience includes teaching Honors English at Mount Vernon College and the Honors Senior Seminar at GW.

Outside of higher education, Ms. Baxter has served as an executive of a variety of organizations including The Civil War Trust, the New York State Division of Human Rights, and HCX, an entrepreneurial health care venture.

Ms. Baxter earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in English Literature from Bryn Mawr College and her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
