Eckington Elementary schools in 1965 and opened the new Gage-Eckington Elementary school in 1976. As Principal, she served in the LeDroit Park community for more than twenty six years.
Upon retirement from the D.C. School System, Mary was offered a position
in the School of Education, at American University. As the Urban Educator in Residence, she continues to teach and supervise young student teachers as they prepare for their fIrst classroom experiences. She also works with seasoned teachers to support them as they work to improve their skills.

In March of 2006, Mary was elected to the Board of Trustees of the University of the District of Columbia as one of the alumnae representatives. |
