Welcome New Firebird! Congratulations on your admission to the University of the District of Columbia! (UDC)  We are excited that you are joining us for the Fall 2013 semester! All newly admitted students are required to attend New Student Orientation. It is an important first step in your journey to success at UDC. During New Student Orientation, you will learn about programs, services, and support that UDC has to offer students. You will meet classmates, faculty, staff, and University leaders. Whether you are a first time student, transfer or readmitted student, you will learn strategies for adapting to college life here at UDC. In addition, you will have the opportunity to receive advising from the Academic Advising Center and/or your academic program or department. You should leave with a plan of study that reflects your interests and ensures your graduation in a timely manner. Please dress comfortably, and wear walking shoes. If you are a UDC-Community College student, please send an e-mail to cc@udc.edu with your Student ID# and put “Orientation” in the subject line. You will be contacted by one of the Student Success Specialists regarding orientation for UDC-CC students.

Orientation Schedule

Confirmation of Enrollment: ALL STUDENTS:  If you have not submitted your Confirmation of Enrollment Form after you received your acceptance letter, please submit the completed form to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, Building 39, A-level or by email: UDCadmissions@udc.edu.  The form can be located in your Acceptance packet or online at: Confirmation of Enrollment Form

Enrollment Checklist: This information is available online at Next Steps to Enroll .  Please direct any admissions or enrollment related questions to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, 202.274.6110 or E-mail: UDCadmissions@udc.edu.

Transfer Students: Remember to bring copies of all unofficial transcripts and/or your UDC transcript evaluation report. If you have not yet received your UDC transcript evaluation report, please notify us during check-in. 

Proof of Immunizations:  If you are age 26 and under, please fax your Record of Immunization Form before the orientation session. For your convenience, the required immunizations are listed below, as well as on our website at: Immunization Requirements, and in your Admissions packet. Fax any outstanding immunization records to 202.274.5411. Please submit your documentation BEFORE Wednesday, July 19, 2013Students who have not submitted proof of immunizations will not be able to register. Call 202.274.5030 if you have any questions.

Immunizations Required:

  • Two (2) doses of Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccines (MMR) or a positive blood test for MMR. The second dose must be at least 2 months after the first dose.
  • A booster Td or Tdapis required 10 years after the primary series.
  • Three (3) doses of Hepatitis-B Vaccines or a positive blood test for Hepatitis-B.
  • Two (2) Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccines or a positive blood test (Titers) for Varicella or proof of chicken pox illness.
  • One (1) Meningococcal Vaccine for athletes and others living in university housing.

Health Insurance: The University of the District of Columbia is proud to bring you student illness and accident insurance for the 2013-2014 academic year through CHARTIS.  All students who enroll at UDC must have health insurance coverage .  New students are automatically enrolled in the CHARTIS insurance plan, and charged accordingly when registering for classes. If you already have comparable coverage and wish to waive out of the plan, please follow this link: Waiver Form.

Note: Students have to pay and be reimbursed on their student account, as the health insurance fee is refunded only when the student has completed the online insurance waiver process by the deadline. The insurance company must confirm the student’s comparable coverage, and then email the approved waiver which can take up to 6 weeks from the waiver deadline.

Public Transportation: We strongly encourage public transportation. The metro stop is UDC/Van Ness Station (Red Line).

Parking:  Parking Rates for visitors are noted below. You will need to take your ticket upon your entry to the parking garage, and you will pay on foot at one of the parking pay stations on campus prior to exiting the garage. The construction will not impact your arrival from the parking garage to campus.

International Students:  Newly arriving students into the U.S., holding F1 visas, should bring a copy of their I-94 card and submit to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.  For additional information, please contact Dr. Dennis Antoine in Building 39, Room 301-H or by Phone: 202.274.5933

Navigating the Campus:  Major construction is currently underway on campus, as UDC builds a new state-of-the-art student center. If you use the Metro, you will notice detours on campus. Orientation staff will be available near the Metro station exits to assist you in finding your way. Please see the directions for navigating the campus below. Entering Campus From the Van Ness / UDC Metro:
A: Upon exiting the Van Ness/UDC Metro Station escalator, proceed southbound on Connecticut Ave., towards the intersection of Veazey Terrace and Connecticut Ave. If you take the Van Ness/UDC Metro Station elevator, you will immediately find yourself under the covered walkway. Proceed by following the directions below.
B: You will enter a covered walkway and notice construction fencing along your right hand side.
C: After reaching the intersection of Van Ness St. and Connecticut Ave., turn right heading westward on Van Ness St. You should notice the IntelSat building (across the street) on your left hand side and construction fencing continuing on your right hand side. Follow the signage and continue along Van Ness St. to the intersection of Van Ness St. and International Drive.
Enter Here: Turn right and walk towards the new campus plaza.
D: Orientation will begin in the Auditorium, Building 46. Head across the plaza to the far North-West corner of campus, and you will see Building 46 and a flight of stairs leading you towards the entrance
