UDC Sustainability Initiative is Recognized By Peers and Leaders
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC - The University of the District of Columbia’s Sustainability Initiative continues to make important strides. In June, it was featured in the "member spotlight" section of the national online bulletin published by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, a member-driven, independent 501 (c) (3) that provides university faculty, staff and students, as well as the businesses that serve them, with thought leadership, knowledge resources, opportunities for professional development and other benefits created by sustainability initiatives.
At the UNCF Building Green Learning Institute, UDC was also recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as one of only 28 minority-serving institutions participating in RecycleMania, a national project that involves benchmarking and competition among universities to promote recycling and reduce waste. Of the 630 competing universities, only 4% are minority academic institutions.
The University’s Sustainability Initiative is headed by Howard Ways, AICP and Joshua Lasky, LEED AP.
As the only urban land-grant institution in the United States, the University of the District of Columbia (www.udc.edu) supports a broad mission of education, research and community service across all member colleges and schools, which include the Community College, College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences, College Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Public Administration, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and David A.
