UDC Exhibits Outstanding STEM Programs at 2016 USA Science & Engineering Festival

The University of the District of Columbia will participate in the 2016 USA Science and Engineering Festival to be held at the Washington Convention Center April 15 through 17, 2016.  STEM faculty and students will exhibit hands-on STEM programs from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES).  UDC exhibits include “DNA Extraction from Strawberries” (Dr. Rosie Sneed); “Aquaponics” (Dr. Kamran Zendehdel); “UDC Built Robot” (Dr. Briana Wellman); “Water Quality Testing” (Dr. Tolessa Deksissa); ‘Paper Chromatography” (Dr. Xueging Song) and Nutrition Prescription (Rx)) (Chef T).

Thousands of children and their parents and teachers are expected to attend.  Friday, April 15, has been devoted to the attendance of elementary, middle and high school children and STEM teachers.  Saturday and Sunday are devoted to children and their parents.  Visitors will have the opportunity to conduct experiments. Our goal is to promote awareness of the many opportunities for STEM training and research at UDC. A UDC Recruiter will be available to talk with youth and parents youth.

Members of the Planning Committee represent each of the participating schools and colleges.  Drs.  Xueging Song, Brandy Huderson, Okjin Jean Kim and George Smith represent CAS.  CAUSES representatives include Drs. Dwane Jones, Tia Jeffrey and Matthew Richardson.  Tzadu Gebretensae represented SEAS.  Jean Humphrey, Office of Sponsored Programs, is facilitating the planning process.

Please join us at the Washington Convention Center.  The festival will operate from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Friday; 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Saturday and 10:00AM – 4:00 PM on Sunday.  Admission is Free.
