Dear University Community,
I trust that your holidays were joyous and yielded many happy memories for you, family and friends.
My message today begins what will be a continuous flow of communication during trying times for our beloved University. Sadly, we are in the throes of wrenching change in complying with the City Council’s mandate to right-size the institution. To reiterate a hard reality expressed by Board Chair Dr. Elaine Crider, this process will be unavoidably painful. One of my top priorities, however, is to try to lessen our anguish and uncertainty through steadfast transparency. I will inform you fully and frequently about looming developments. Much of the information that I share with you will accentuate the positive: Our vast opportunity to reexamine UDC’s core mission, with the goal of performing it with greater efficiency and loftier results.
Together, we will seize this moment to refocus our efforts in the District of Columbia. Our commitment to student success will remain unwavering. And be assured: I am dedicated in my interim leadership of our institution to effecting change that most benefits our students—current, past and future.
Notwithstanding our regrettable circumstances, I fervently wish that your New Year be blessed with hope, prosperity and good health.
