Urban Teacher Academy - Program StructureThe master's degree programs offered in the Urban Teacher Academy enables candidates to fulfill teacher certification and other professional requirements of the field, while grounding participants firmly in the knowledge, understanding, and skills that are the foundation of a successful teaching career. MAT Programs Urban Teacher Academy MAT programs (with concentrations in Elementary Education, Middle School Math, Secondary English, and Secondary Social Studies) feature a unique design that blends the best of traditional-route and alternative-route teacher preparation. The focus of coursework and fieldwork is highly practical – you will complete the program armed with effective teaching techniques and lesson plans aligned with local school standards and expectations. Our innovative model allows highly qualified aspiring teachers to begin making a difference in the classroom quickly, without forcing them to learn on the job. Learn more. MA degrees – in Early Childhood or Special Education – provide in-depth learning experiences in these highly specialized fields. A relatively greater emphasis on theory and research prepares students to become either classroom practitioners or for advanced study and education-related careers. Full-time students can complete MA programs in two years.
