Signature Programs

Urban Teacher Academy

NCUE’s teacher education efforts are housed in the Urban Teacher Academy, which offers graduate-level teacher preparation and teacher certification; and professional development for in-service teachers.

Graduate Level Teacher Preparation

MAT programs are designed primarily for aspiring teachers preparing to enter the field. For academic year 2011-2012, we seek applicants for the following programs:

We anticipate offering additional MAT concentrations in coming academic years – check back for art, music, science, special education, world languages, and more.

UDC Alumni: Learn more about the Presidential Alumni Fellowship in Urban Teaching.

MA programs are open to both aspiring teachers and in-service teachers seeking to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.

Teacher Certification
Experienced teachers who need fewer than 15 credits to complete state licensure requirements are welcome at UDC. Send Dr. Julie Sweetland (jsweetland@udc.edu) an email describing your specific situation (including your current employment; current license, if any; and a summary of previous degrees and education coursework.) We'll see how we can help.

Coming Soon

  • Professional development sequences: Working in coordination with D.C. schools, Center faculty will develop and implement professional development programs for in-service educators.
  • Urban Teacher Residency: Rather than limiting teacher education to university classrooms, teacher residencies take advantage of P-12 classrooms and the most effective teachers in urban schools as part of teacher preparation.

Early Childhood Leadership Institute
The Early Childhood Leadership Institute (ECLI) provides workforce development, training, and educational support for early care and education practitioners.
