Graduate Studies

Allow me to welcome you as you consider graduate study at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Flagship. Our graduate programs are centered in a discipline-focused department, whose faculty members make admissions decisions, administer the degree program, and become your mentors and colleagues for life.

Our programs are designed to help you gain the knowledge, skills, experiences, and networks needed to achieve your personal and professional dreams.  Because we are the only public university in the nation’s capital and an urban land-grant institution, most of our graduate programs have a distinctive focus on urban issues, disparities, and service in the public interest.

We know your focus is on choosing the best graduate program for YOU, and that we must measure up against your criteria to earn your application. Our programs are committed to YOU: to prepare you to excel in your chosen field and make a positive difference in the world. Please take a look at our offerings and links on the left side of this page and do not hesitate to contact the indicated program director or me for any additional information that will help you decide if they match your interests and needs.

Congratulations for contemplating this major educational step. Do come and visit. Application forms and other information are available on our Admission web pages. The priority deadlines for admissions are November 15 for Spring entry; April 1 for Summer; and June 15 for Fall. Applications received after the deadlines are considered by the program on a space-available basis.

Assuming you apply and are accepted, I urge you to take full advantage of the expertise of the faculty, the flexibility in your program, and the rich environment of our nation’s capital to tailor your graduate experience and rise into the career you seek. I look forward to getting to know you in the months ahead.

Sincerely yours,

Beverly Karplus Hartline, Ph.D.
