- The Office of Governmental Affairs interacts with legislators and executive branch officials to inform them of university concerns and positions on pending legislation or actions, and serves as a contact point for legislative interests in the University.
- Maintains effective relations with legislative members and their staffs to ensure awareness of any on-going activity that affects the University.
- Prepares and/or alerts University officials of possible reactions to policy, program or legislative options.
- Responds to policy and operational questions of the University in connection with the political and legislative implications of such questions and in developing strategies to address those implications.
- Identifies and maintains effective methods for timely and effective communication and dissemination of all legislative and governmental bodies information.
- Drafts testimonies, legislative language, proclamations, and statements for the President's Office and administration officials for interviews, news conferences and seminars.
- Advises the President, Vice Presidents and other administration officials of the best practices in making presentations and appearances before the Council of the District of Columbia.
- Tracks and monitors legislation which directly affects the University.
- Draft reports, articles, pamphlets and other written materials.
- Attends seminars, conferences and outreach activities to stay current on the changing demands of governmental bodies and non-governmental groups on higher education issues.
