The 4.0 Lounge:
The Perfect Place for Every Student

BY SHALA GOOLSBY

David Gaston (L), acting UDC President Stan Jackson (C), and Daniel Ephrem (R) discussing future plans for the 4.0 Lounge.

If you’re striving to be the best you can be to achieve that perfect 4.0 GPA, then The 4.0 Lounge is the spot for you. UDC graduate David Gaston along with a small, devoted team of students have transformed the former “game room” into the ultimate place for students. It combines the right amount of pleasure (flat screen TV, pool tables, table tennis, and cards) to everything you need to help you in your quest for academic success.

“I am committed to making positive changes at UDC, and this has led me to help establish a more mature and academic atmosphere from a room with so much to offer than just games for recreation,” said Gaston.

When beginning his makeover of the game room, he thought “The 4.0 Lounge” was more fitting to what he was trying achieve.

“In order to enhance the environment, we renamed the “game room” to “The 4.0 Lounge.” Having a 4.0 is the highest GPA one can receive academically, and I didn’t want that goal to be lost when spending time in there,” said Gaston.

A new sign was one of the first steps in transforming the “game room.”

The Lounge is now designed so different sections of the room are designated study spots. Math, English, Project Empowerment, Sports, and Science are among those areas. Computers are available around the room for student use, and if a tutor is needed, The 4.0 Lounge has that covered too.

The Lounge was just the beginning of Gaston’s vision. Gaston’s entire vision is included in The Gaston Media Group. It’s “a student leadership team helping to improve recruitment, retention, and graduation by being dedicated to promoting the highest potential that students can reach academically.” It includes the 4.0 Lounge, The 4.0 Magazine, and 4.0 Television, which are both in the works.

So the next time you think of great entrepreneurs like Jay-Z, Nelly, Diddy, and 50 Cent, Throw David Gaston’s name in there too. Not only is he taking the academic lifestyle to a new level, he wants everyone to be a part of it.

If you are interested in learning more or helping out, please contact David Gaston at thegastongroup, or visit The 4.0 Lounge at 4200 Connecticut Ave. NW Washington, DC 20008 Building 38, Room B03. Hours of operation are M-F 10am to 6 p.m. unless other arrangements have been made.
