UDC’s Channel 98 will soon be filled with new and innovative programming, thanks in part to a collaboration between  the Office of University Relations and Communication and the Department of Mass Media and Visual Performing Arts.

Formerly known as Channel 19,  “98” will host a new show produced by journalism and TV production students called “Revelations, Mind, Body, and Soul.” They will highlight selected special features as well as UDC’s Continuing Education programs.

Broadcast Journalism Professor William  Hanff, and Jwahara Coleman, junior and  journalism major edit video in the new Final  Cut Pro suites.

Faculty and students alike said the shows promote the university, and give students a unique opportunity to learn how TV production and journalism work together in the field of broadcast.

“It’s a fun class, but there are lots of moving parts,” said Professor William Hanff, broadcast journalism instructor.  “We have to remain flexible at the same time hold students to deadlines.  This is a good learning experience for the students and good promotional outreach for the university,” he added.

Junior and TV production major Tyisha Smith is also excited to be a part of the new class, and sees “Revelations” as the first step in the right direction for the university.  “There’s a lot of interaction.  It’s a collaborative class that will set the way for the next group of students.”

Vice President of University Relations and Communications Bobby Austin, meanwhile,  is pleased with the progress Channel 98 has made so far.  “Channel 98 will be a magnificent microphone to the city,” explained Austin.  “This is a professional station dedicated to the voice of the students, to learn and envision, and I am very proud of the new people, as well as the veteran staff who are making this possible.”

Revelations is expected to air later in the year.
