G. Derek Musgrove

Research Interests:
Dr. Musgrove's research interests include post-1965 African American history and the conservative ascendance in modern American politics. He is currently working on a manuscript entitled "'The Harassment of Black Elected Officials': Repression, Rumors of Repression, and Racial Politics in the Post-Civil Rights United States, 1965-1995," (forthcoming from University of Georgia Press) which examines black elected officials allegations of state and news media "harassment" over the course of the post civil rights period. He is also working on a study of black voter suppression in the post civil rights period tentatively titled The Second Redemption: Republican Ballot Security Programs and the Suppression on Black Voters, 1964-2008.

Selected Honors and Awards:

Dr. Musgrove has received the 2003-4 Anne E. Plato predoctoral fellowship at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and the 2007-8 postdoctoral fellowship in the Center for African American Urban Studies and the Economy at Carnegie Mellon University to support his work.

Career in Brief:

Dr. Musgrove is an Assistant Professor of History at UDC. Prior to Arriving at UDC, he was a visiting lecturer in the Department of History at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He received his Ph.D. in U.S. History from New York University in 2005.
