UDC LADY FIREBIRDS DOWN DAVIS & ELKINS LADY SENATORS 81-69

Elkins, West Virginia:  Although the UDC Lady Firebirds’ trip to West Virginia was fraught with dangers from a heavy snowfall, that did not deter them from their appointed task to avenge a painful one point, last second, early season loss, at home, to the Davis & Elkins Lady Senators.  UDC left Elkins with a sweet victory, 81-69, in basketball action. 

UDC shot 34.9 % (15-43) in the first half and went into the locker room trailing by one, 38-39 at half-time. Davis & Elkins hit 42.4% (14-33) of their two point shots during that half. The Lady Firebirds improved their shooting in the second half, hitting 48.5% (16-33) of their two pointers, finishing with 40.8 % for the game. UDC also made 72.7% of their free throws.

Senior guard Jaime Brown reached a significant milestone in her basketball career by scoring her 1,000th career point in this game. She paced the Lady Firebirds with a career high 28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals, followed by Deidra Bumbrey with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Sylvia Kemp added 18 points, and 12 rebounds, while Jennifer Jones contributed 10 points, and 7 rebounds to the win. Eniola Bakare dropped in 5 points, and collected 10 rebounds in the victory.

UDC improved their season record to 8-18 with this win. They will see their next action against the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings on Thursday, February 16, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
