About Center

The Small Business Development Center at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is a member of the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) District of Columbia Small Business Development Center (DCSBDC) Network. The Center is charged with assisting in the growth and development and ultimate success of small businesses in our community.

The Center is conveniently located on the campus of UDC, street level of Building 52; our address is 4340 Connecticut Avenue, NW (next door to Gold’s Gym). Our service area covers Wards 3 and 4, but our client base is much more far reaching, with clients coming from the student population, other wards, and from outside the beltway as well.

In order to accomplish the mission of the Small Business Development Center, we feel that is important for new business owners to receive the most comprehensive small business training that is available. Our center offers management assistance, one-on-one counseling and coaching in:

• Starting and growing your business
• Developing a business plan
• Market research
• Loan packaging
• Capital Acquisition
• Federal and local certifications
• Accounting and recordkeeping

This counseling – combined with our numerous workshop/seminar training topics – helps to better prepare new and emerging business owners to face the unforeseen hazards of starting and growing a new business. We believe that the better prepared an entrepreneur is, the better the chances of turning his/her dream into a thriving business.
