Mission

The Institute of Gerontology was established in 1971 for two main purposes: to introduce interdisciplinary courses in gerontology into the university curriculum and to create a a community resource for improving the lives of the urban elderly. In keeping of the goals of the university, special efforts by the Institute are directed toward identifying the problems of African Americans and other minority aged, and training professionals to work with them.
