Project Headway
Project Headway Purpose : To provide individuals who have earned or are currently earning a CDA credential an opportunity to progress professionally and academically while pursuing an Associate in Arts degree in Child Development and Nursery Education with a focus on Early Literacy, from the University of the District of Columbia. |

Participants are expected to continue working full-time in early care and education in the District of Columbia while pursuing a degree.

The two-year degree program (60 credit hours) may be completed within four years or sooner depending on the number of credits participants are able to transfer.

Participants holding a valid CDA credential can earn up to 6 practicum credit hours.

Expenses for tuition, fees and books will be covered by Project Headway, however all participants are expected to apply for a Pell Grant. When you receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), notifying you of Pell Grant eligibility, you must give your mentor a copy.

UDC English and Mathematics placement examinations will be scheduled. All participants must take these exams.

All courses and meetings will be scheduled during convenient hours including early evenings, weekends or summer courses.

Participants are required to attend monthly meetings that provide a network of support, practical learning activities and horizon-expanding experiences.

All participants will be assigned a mentor who will provide academic, personal and career guidance and support.

If the student has any outstanding issues with the University, such as high school transcripts not submitted to the Admissions Office as part of the application process, or a change of home address not submitted to the University, the student will not be registered for classes
