Beverly Langford Dugger Visiting Professor in Leadership
This annual appointment is a tribute to the memory of Beverly Langford Dugger who provided extraordinary leadership while serving as Executive Director of the DC Public Schools Head Start Program. Each year leaders who exemplify Beverly’s commitment to
children and families are invited to serve as a visiting professor and conduct graduate level seminars, colloquia and research.
Dr. Anita P. DeFrantz was awarded the 2002 Beverly Langford Dugger Visiting Professor. Dr. DeFrantz is the Associate Professor Emerita at the University of San Francisco School of Education. Dr. DeFrantz is a recognized expert in the area of literacy and African Ancestry Americans.
As a visiting professor at the UDC School of Education, Dr. DeFrantz taught a course entitled Taking Charge: Leadership for Literacy. The course objective was to offer “a systematic effort to provide an understanding of the linguistic, cultural, communication and literacy history of African Ancestry Americans. “ |
