Water Quality and Marine Science

The Associate of Arts Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.) program of study in Water Quality is designed to equip students with academic and laboratory skills necessary to develop, extract, and use the natural resources of the oceans, and to prepare them for management and monitoring techniques of biological, chemical, physical, and microbiological analysis of water and waste-water.

A certificate program in Environmental Studies is being developed

Faculty members specializations include environmental science, soil and water chemistry, marine biology, environmental microbiology, and geological oceanography. In addition to classroom responsibilities, faculty are involved in research on the beneficial use of wastes, environmental management of wetlands, and heavy metals in the environment.

Laboratories include the water quality laboratory, equipped for chemical and physical analysis of water and soils; the marine science laboratory, equipped for the study of marine organisms and environmental microbiology; and the Geosciences laboratory, equipped for the study of geological oceanography.
